Bodinrocker – Roller Coaster Ride

Bodinrocker’ is het pseudoniem waar de Zweedse singer-songwriter Anders Bodin uit Göteborg zich achter verschuilt. Zijn muziek bestaat uit naar pop knipogende rockliedjes die meestal vlot in het gehoor liggende deuntjes opleveren. Er zit een nieuw volwaardig album aan te komen van ‘Bodinrocker’ dat begin 2018 onder de titel “Eye To Eye” zal verschijnen.

Als voorsmaakjes heeft hij intussen al twee singeltjes uit dat album op de markt gebracht met eerst in april 2017 het nummer “Vacation” en nu “Roller Coaster Ride” dat eigenlijk een minialbum is met vier nummers waaronder ook weer “Vacation”, aangevuld met de songs “Space” en “Long Way Round”. De vier tracks werden door Anders Bolin gecomponeerd in een hecht samenwerkingsverband met tekstschrijver Jan Leentjes die vanuit zijn Nederlandse thuisbasis in Sommelsdijk, Zuid-Holland werkt.

De song “Roller Coaster Ride” is dus eerder een poprocknummer, terwijl iedere muziekliefhebber bij het horen van “Vacation” meteen zal denken aan de typisch beukende sound van de Britse rockgroep ‘Status Quo’. Het was trouwens tijdens een optreden van die groep in 1984 in Stockholm dat de toen 12-jarige Anders Bodin geïnspireerd raakte en besloot om zelf ook muziek in deze stijl te gaan maken.

Die ‘Status Quo’-sound is trouwens ook goed hoorbaar bij de derde track “Space”, terwijl afsluiter “Long Way Round” meer refereert naar de seventies glam rock van Britse bands als ‘The Sweet’ and ‘Slade’. Tot slot nog even vermelden wie de muzikanten waren tijdens de studio-opname van deze vier songs: Anders Bodin zingt en speelt op gitaar, Stefan Deland is de bassist en Klas Anderhell de drummer, terwijl Lars Ekberg op piano en orgel speelt en ook de taak als producer van deze plaat voor zijn rekening heeft genomen.

Anders Bodin is een gitarist/zanger uit het Zweedse Gothenburg. Hoewel hij nog maar 33 jaar oud is houdt hij van classic rock met invloeden uit de jaren 1970. In 2006 debuteert hij met het album ‘Hall Of Flames’, in 2010 volgt ‘Mysterious Man’ en in 2014 ‘Rock It The Right Way’. Het materiaal voor deze EP schrijft hij samen met Marten Larka en de Nederlander Jan Leentjes. Het is een voorproefje voor het binnenkort te verschijnen ‘Eye To Eye’. De muziek van Bodin situeert zich in de Aldult Oriented Rock. ‘Roller Coaster Ride’, de opener, is frisse poprock. In ‘Vacation’ hoor je duidelijk Bodins liefde voor de band Status Quo, terwijl in ‘Space’ heel wat Beatles invloeden doordringen. Afsluiter ‘Long Way Home’ is een stevig stukje classic rock. Niets nieuws, maar gewoon degelijk gebrachte rock om niet teveel bij na te denken en plezier te hebben.

It’s nothing new, but good classic rock for fans of Status Quo and poprock lovers.

Bodinrocker – Roller Coaster Ride

Bodinrocker, das ist das Alias von Anders Bodin aus Gothenburg, Schweden. Als er in einem kleinen Dorf in der Mitte Schwedens aufwuchs, startete er bereits im zarten Alter von Zehn mit dem Erlernen der Gitarre, The Beatles, Slade und Status Quo sollen ihn beeinflusst haben.

Sein Debütalbum veröffentlichte Anders im Jahre 2006, “Hall Of Flames“. Bereits hier zeigte sich die eindeutige Hinwendung zum klassischen Rock, und dieses offenbart sich noch einmal deutlich mit der Musik der aktuellen EP, Roller Coaster Ride. Hier zielt die Stimmung klar in Richtung Status Quo, mit typisch klassischen Riffs und schnell ins Blut gehenden Melodien, die sehr harmonisch, unkompliziert und straff vorgetragen werden.

Yeah – der Old-School-Rock ist doch noch nicht tot, schnörkellos ziehen die vier Songs über die Runden und vermitteln ein fröhliches Gefühl und animieren zum Tanzen. Handwerklich einwandfrei, ohne großartige Soli, sondern dichte Arrangements mit Mitsing- und Mitwipp-Effekt, Musik, die man nicht mehr so häufig hört in diesen Tagen.

Ganz neu sind eigentlich nur die beiden ersten Songs, die einen Vorgeschmack auf das kommende Album geben, “Eye To Eye“ soll es heißen, und ich freue mich schon darauf, “Space“ und “Long Way Road“ stammen vom Album “Rock It In The Right Way“.

Anders Bodin is de muzikale alias voor Bodinrocke. Dezez uit Zweden afkomstige rocker haalde de mosterd bij onder meer de Britse formatie Status Quo, iets wat je duidelijk kan horen op ‘Vacation’. Een nummer met diezelfde rockin’ beat eigen aan de Britse band.

‘Roller Coaster Ride’ is een EP’tje met daarop vier nummers. De vraag is maar waarom? ‘Roller Coaster Ride’ wordt ook uitgegeven als een single of wordt deze EP als singel uitgebracht. Alle 4 tracks zijn eerder al te horen geweest op vorige albums van ‘Bodinrocker’ zoals het in 2014 uitgebrachte ‘Rock It The Night Away’.

Klassieke rifje en catchy Britse melodieën die je ergens doen belanden tussen de Mercy Beat’ en de rockin’ Status Quo, alle voor mij toch ;-). ‘Vacation’ zal ook te beluisteren zijn op het in 2018 verwachtte album ‘Eye To Eye’, en nu dringend aan vakantie toe…

Bodinrocker – Rock It The Right Way

Any fans of the classic Quo sound will be familiar already with two great albums by Swedish rocker, Bodinrocker – Hall of Flames from 2006 and Mysterious Man from 2010.

The good news is that Anders Bodin – Bodinrocker – has just released his latest album, the superb Rock it The Right Way. This is a great album. Not just an album for Quo fans, though the classic, driving boogie rock sound runs right through the album, but anyone who enjoys classic rock will find much to enjoy here.

The Race is my favourite track, but Foreign Land, Rock It The Right Way, Space and Long Way Round are right up there too. But every track is a winner, a really fine album – great melodies, strong vocals, fantastic guitar work with some really tasty solos, and the intelligent lyrics really add an additional layer. Best album I’ve heard for a long time.

Bodinrocker – Rock It The Right Way

Anders Bodin hails from Sweden, where he begun writing and playing guitar at the tender age of ten. Influenced by Slade, The Beatles and especially Status Quo, they inspired him to become a serious musician during one of their shows in 1984.

Releasing his debut album “Hall Of Flames” in 2006, Bodin continued to write and perform, eventually securing a support slot with the mighty Quo themselves! It´s around this time that he started using the title Bodinrocker (which is Bodin´s nickname) as the bands moniker.

The inspiration of Quo is evident throughout opening song “Foreign Land”, with its “heads-down” boogie and it takes on the feel of some of their mid-eighties material. “Long Way Round” is closer to something The Move might have released, with an authentic sixties feel. The West Coast Rock of “Dreaming Away” ows a dept to Tom Petty and is a pleasant little tune. The end of the release has us heading back into realiable Boogie territory with “The Race” and “Space”.

As easy as it is to knock the Quo for being three chord wonders, no band really seems to be able to replicate their signature sound to any degree. Bodinrocker certainly puts in a good attempt, but ultimately the songs leave you wanting the real thing.

Bodinrocker – Rock It The Right Way

It´s safe to say that nothing on “Rock it The Right Way” is too taxing. Anders Bodin and his merry band take an entirely straightforward approach to their music and serve up twelve tracks of simple but decently executed bluesy rock.

Fans of Status Quo will enjoy the heads down boogie of “Foreign Land” and “Guitar Man”, while elsewhere Bodinrocker tap into the Southern rock groove of Georgia Sattelites and ZZ Top. “Fly High” even has something of Skynard´s “What´s Your Name” about it.

No, there´s nothing close to orginality, but the Bodin crew can pen a decent song, even if never really threatening true greatness. It may sound insulting to say that it sounds like a bunch of good quality demos recorded by friends for kicks, but it´s not meant to; it´s uncomplicated music with it´s heart on it´s sleeve, entirely inoffensive and made for pure pleasure.

When Anders Bodin is an old man drinking a cold one on his porch and his grand kids ask him what he did back in the day, he can play this with a quiet, understated pride and smile.

Bodinrocker – Rock It The Right Way

This is very Status Quo to say the least. It’s like a tribute to that said band with no songs by them – in fact he even supported them in 2010 in Sweden.

Bodinrocker literally rips off Quo riffs right the way through the album from ‘Foreign Land’ to the title track ‘Rock It The Right Way’ – nothing more to be said really.
